Housing Crisis in Warwick District

Cllr Martyn Ashford, vice chairman of WDCs Planning Committee has summed up the state of affordable housing provision in Warwick District - "There are so many people on the waiting list simply because there are not enough houses to go round." I am surprised Cllr Alan Boad does not understand that...but an over-expensive survey will undoubtedly tell him what the rest of us already know.

Warwick Times published the crisis in the November 9th edition, when publically the problem was clearly voiced. It makes depressing reading, with nealy 2,500 people currently stuck on the waiting list and only 38 houses empty out of a stock of 5,739.

The district council has a commitment to build 100 new affordable homes every year, but 4,000 are needed by 2011. This is made worse by the greedy tactics of builders submitting applications for houses under the affordable housing criteria. This is eating up available brown field sites, leaving only greenbelt land, which none of us want to see used.

A number of us will therefore be voicing our concerns on November 30th at 6pm, Leamington Town Hall.
