Can Jacob Marley come knocking this Christmas?

Letter to the local Observer

Dear Sir,

As I walk around Leamington this Christmas, I see those new over-priced apartments by Leamington Town Hall, glistening like fairy lights in a shop window. New, shiny and bright they represent what is worse about our current society - greed.

For many of our citizens have a home to put up their Christmas decorations this year, but there are thousands more who do not. There are far too few houses at affordable rates and Scrooge is very much alive pre-ghostly visits in the private rented and house building sector.

The GMB union has recently released data stating that in this district, the average house price is 8.3 times the average annual salary. A house has become an impossible present to buy and a dream far beyond the creativity of Dickens to resolve. It will take all policy makers and politicians to resolve the current supply crisis, so that all our citizens have a Merry Christmas in years to come.

Merry Christmas one and all!

Paul Bell
