Courier 23 December 05: Disabled woman's housing nightmare this Christmas

I have written to the Head of Benefits, Andy Jones asking for some compassion this Christmas...

Dear Mr Jones,

I am extremely saddened by the report in the Courier today, about the plight of Christine Bull. I obviously do not know the details of the case, apart from what I have read, but based on this report I have to say that it cannot be right to propose the eviction of a disabled woman and her son from their home at anytime, least of all at Christmas.

If she is entitled to benefits, then you should be picking up the court costs, as she has proved that she has an entitlement. As a council tax payer in Warwick District, I am alarmed by the lack of compassion that is being shown. There is nothing worse than fearing the loss of your home, something that you have probably not experienced. It is not acceptable to simply dismiss her fears and trauma as her own fault...show some compassion for the citizens of this district.

Obviously I can only comment based on what I know, but if the report in the courier is correct, then you should be lifting the threat of eviction and sorting this out for this poor woman.

Merry Christmas,

Paul Bell
