Letter to the Times in response to the "Just get your own home"
What a load of absolute rubbish from Mr Richard Harding, (Just get your own home, Your Letters, January 25). He obviously has no idea what has happened to the housing market since he bought his ivory tower on wealthy Northumberland Road. Maybe I am being harsh. Could it be that he has not set foot outside his house in twenty years? Or perhaps he thinks salaries are so high, we can indulge in a few houses, but choose to beg for social housing from an ever unobtainable and dwindling supply. Or is it that if you earn a low salary that you should get off your backsides and work seven jobs, just to afford a converted garage? Wake up Mr Harding. We are all working extremely hard, but unless a single person's income exceeds £35,000 a year, there is little that we can do, except campaign for a secure roof over our heads. I am of course open to offers to clean your mansion for a few extra pennies, take lodgings in your servant quarters; or maybe we could increase the council tax by 90% and pay this "moaning council worker" a decent wage? Or do you have the workhouse in mind?
